About Phuthanang
Our story, mission, and commitment to improving human dignity for persons with disabilities.
Our Story
Phuthanang Protective Workshop is a non-profit organisation that has been serving persons with disabilities for more than 30 years.
Humble Beginnings
Phuthanang Protective Workshop was established, starting operations in a Zozo hut at Tsakane Main Clinic with a vision to serve persons with disabilities.
Permanent Home
The local Town Council granted land at 7522 Hlakwane Street, Tsakane. The Department of Labour built the first structure with a kitchen, workshop, admin office, hall, and ABET classroom.
Renewal & Rebuild
After 15 years of service, the original building had deteriorated. The structure was demolished and a new, improved facility was built to better serve the community.
Grand Reopening
The rebuilt facility reopened next to Tsakane Main Clinic for better accessibility. Today it houses full-time security, an admin office, sewing/embroidery workshop, and a kitchen with dining area.
30+ Years of Impact
Continuing to serve the community with a full-time team, structured programmes, and a commitment to dignity and inclusion for all persons with disabilities.
